THIS DAY IN SNEAKER HISTORY: MICHAEL JORDAN’S GAME-WINNING SHOT IN ’82 NCAA FINAL

Sophieism | “He did it…again!”

There are times when Sophie gets into football, and last night’s Super Bowl XLVI between the Patriots and Giants was one of those times…well at least for about 3:54 seconds or so.

Towards the end of the game, I was sitting on the couch next to Sophie. I was watching the game, hoping the Giants could eek out another late comeback, and Sophie was fiddling around with a stack of flashcards.

During the Giants’ game winning touchdown drive, Eli Manning completed a pass to Mario Manningham to extend the drive. Manningham was on a go route and broke to a fade, tip-toed the line, and brought the ball in between two defenders. This caused me to leap from the couch, throw my hands in the air, and say "He caught it!"

Sophie, reacting to my excitement, threw her stack of flashcards on the ground, leaped to her feet, raised her arms in the air and yelled "He did it!".

I’m still standing and now focused on her, she looks at me and I say "Yes honey! He caught it!".

Immediately after, the two of us look back at the TV as the replay is finishing. Sophie sees the replay of the catch and yells, "He did it again!"

Priceless.

NFL lockout? End already!

So the word from ESPN’s sources is that the NFL lockout may be ending next week. And after watching the ESPYs last night…boy am I ready for that.

No, not ready for it to end so that I can plan for fantasy football. I’m not ready for it to end so we can save the preseason games. I’m not even ready for it end just for the sake of football. I’m ready for it to end so the Saints can get some redemption for what happened in the playoffs last year.

All last night on the ESPYs, us Saints fans were reminded of what has to be the most embarrassing loss in franchise history or possibly NFL history. Sure, the Saints have had a ton of bad seasons, but we entered the playoffs last season as defending champs, the team to beat, the most threatening offense in the league…then we lost to a team that entered the playoffs with a losing record. The Who-Dat nation was subject to replays of the “Best Play” candidate Marshawn Lynch “runs over the Saints” and the game that was a strong favorite for “Best Upset”. Damn you Seahawks!

Now, credit is due, they played a decent game and didn’t look like a team with a losing record. BUT…if it weren’t for one long pass with blown coverage and the most pitiful display of tackling that made a back-up back look like a superstar, the Saints would have rolled into the NFC championship game as defending champs. Clearly I’m still a bit upset over this.

So please, NFL and NFLPA…end the lockout already so the Who Dats can begin the road to redemption! TWO DAT!

Blog of the Day | Flu Game (via Nice Kicks)

This Day In Sneaker History: Michael Jordan’s “Flu Game” | NiceKicks.com.

Fourteen years ago today, Jordan put on one of his most memorable performances…38 in Salt Lake in the Finals with the flu. I can remember watching this game on the couch with my Dad. I think he was pulling for the Jazz with Stockton, Horancek, Malone, and I’m sure I would’ve been too…had they been playing anybody else. BUT, how could a youngin’ like me not root for the Bulls with MJ, Pip, Rodman, Kerr, Kukoc. I mean come on…we all wanted to “Be Like Mike”.

Brings back other memories of me watching Bulls home games on WGN at my Maw Maw and Paw Paw’s house before my parent ever had cable. I can remember the Bulls intro music, the announcer, all that. So sweet.

Anyway, the article at the link above is about the kicks, but the 11 minute video clip is a great throwback. The shot of Scottie helping MJ off the court is classic. Oh, and yes…I will own these kicks some day.

Blog of the Day | New Balance NB MT580 (via Distinct Life)

Distinct Life x New Balance 30 for 30: Day 10 (NB MT580 “Spy” White) | NiceKicks.com.

I was just talking New Balance yesterday with my man Shaun out at Sole Purpose. New Balance consistently puts out high quality stuff on all their number joggers and throwback runners. Sadly, they aren’t big in this locale and to get the hotness you’ve got to drive a-ways or order them up from the UK. Here’s to high quality kicks.
